Severe

harshest pain
the driving rain
lets you go
but oh to know
how lessons learned
cannot be turned
back to ignorance
the slightest chance
for thunderstorms
swell like romance

Be soon to sight,
Your loving eyes.
Be kind, reverence, kind
Toward loving mine.

Be soft and light
As touching fair;
Be always strength
As holds me there.

Be nearer now
Than yesterday,
Be always drawing
Closer, pray-

Be always mine?
See, take my hand-
Mine always light
And loving, grand.

Be simple, noble,
Sweet reverent charm.
Be with me, be
My strong, strong arm.

4.16.2011

Oh. Is it winter?
I forgot my hat and gloves.

Oh. Is it nothing?
I thought that it was love.

4.12.2011

My heart is strung,
It's threaded through.

You wake up early,
And I'm awake with you.

Somewhere out along the line,
Your heart to mine
Is threaded too.

Two minutes is enough
To harness pasts needed no more
And so I take my cuff
And roll it up, to fight the lore

I'll wrestle them aground
The memories of stones that I have thrown
The hope I never found
The hearts of men I've never really known

The ways I watched and prayed
And planned and dreamed so endlessly
How I tried so hard each day
To turn a head, to make them see

But time and time again
That game, it left me in despair
Swore I'd never think the same
And I've succeeded seven year'

So this is why the past
No longer follows anywhere
For ever since the last
My heart was changed, and now you're here

I barely feel the pain
The bitterness long, long gone
Purified and plain
As day, clear and bright and strong

My heart can love enough
And more than that you see
My heart can love forever, Love,
Full and proud and tenderly.

May I touch you? No-
nor hold you with mine eye,
nor think of you at late night hour
in bed or couch where cushions lie.

May I tell you? No-
I cannot cause the day to break,
nor prevent it even so
nor stop the thoughts with which I wake.

Shall I keep them between God, myself,
and no one else to know? Yes-
Still I cannot touch you,
nor ever let my heart be known.

9.27.2010

Your gaze-
   it lingered long.
Amazed-
   your hand so strong,
Upon my back,
Across my shoulder blade-
What a loving attempt you made!

Venus' bright light is flashing softly in the sky
Behind the streams of clouds and July days as they pass by;
And one more day that I recall a smile fair and kind
Oh, what a kiss would I bestow-
   on those lips I know-
the very lips that spread so wide.

August is upon me and the silence still remains
And littered in between the stars are clouds that carry rain;
Love is just a far cry out into the empty space
Oh, but the love I could bestow-
   if only he could know
my very heart and my embrace.

When I swore the open sea a fire lit,
Then I knew in me 'twas He who offered it.
When desert land once desolate now laden with the dew
That gathers to a current, it's He who makes it new.

I need redemption for my soul
To cover me and make me whole
I do so recklessly uphold
A crooked heart in search of gold

But there's an anthem rising up in me
So I sing, I sing to You

12.16.2009

Cloudy sky and I'm
Gearing up for another fight
with you.

An angel song
Can't stop the words that come so strong.
Open wide, open wide, and let it fall down on me.

I could tell a tearful tale
of all you've said to me,
And of all the fire I
have thrown right back at you.

There is mercy and it covers me
From a prisoner who died that we be free.

12.15.2009

Oh, to be lovely
And oh, to be seen
By you who thinks
My breath upon your cheek
Is sweet.
To be lovely in your eyes
That dance,
To dance within your arms
That carry me and cherish me
My face, my frame so small.
To be called "lovely"
In a voice as bold as yours
I see your lips move
In my memory
And both our lips are poised.
To be lovelier even still
The older that we get
And lovelier than
Morning songs
or twinkling sunsets.
I desire a great thing by you
Oh, to be seen
And oh, to be
Lovely, lovely, lovely.

'roundabout 1 o'clock this morning

These cold hands are useless
These fists closed tight
My eyes closed tighter
than these cold fists.

I am a sharp-shooter
My aim perfect
My words are sharper
than my aim is.

Expel these demons from my bones
The painful words and worried moans
And hurry in to take their place
And I will sing with words of praise
And grace, o grace, come flowing down
While cymbals play, o love, resound

The demons dark may ever be
Looming, lurking silently
But lift my eyes and I shall see
Your glory shining beautifully
And peace shall be not far away
My King, my God, my Light, my Day
